“The Impossible Dream” by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1974 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1970s |

The seventh Alex Harvey album - the third as the Sensational Alex Harvey Band - was delivered in October, 1974. The unchanged line-up were: Alex Harvey (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Zal Cleminson (guitar), Chris Glen (bass guitar), Hugh McKenna (keyboards, synthesizer) and Ted McKenna (drums). It's a well produced affair, even if their glam-rock theatrics are not always to my taste. Amazingly, this was actually a whole new version of an album which was fully completed but abandoned in April 1974, due to the band and management having reservations about the sound. Scorned producer Shel Talmy left London and returned to his Los Angeles home with the tapes!
