“Sleepwalker” by The Kinks - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1977 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1970s |

Last time I checked (“Muswell Hillbillies” in '71) they were on fine form, but the three whole points downturn since then is truly shocking. At best this is unremarkable pop-rock (“Life Goes On”), and at worst embarrassing pop schmaltz (“Full Moon”). Perhaps tellingly, the LP did well in the US (#21) but they continued to be rather unloved on home soil. I find it utterly amazing that The Kinks released 18 consecutive new music albums from 1969 to 1993, with not one of them charting. Thought they were meant to be a national treasure?
