“V Deep” by The Boomtown Rats - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1982 → ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1980s → |

On “Five Deep”, their fifth album, they're now a five-piece, guitarist Gerry Cott having dropped out since “Mondo Bongo”. They line-up: Bob Geldof (vocals, saxophone); Pete Briquette (bass, vocals); Garry Roberts (guitar, vocals); Johnnie Fingers (keyboards, vocals) and Simon Crowe (drums, vocals). Everybody seems to be going a bit Pigbag in '82, but that's not for me, this is all too poppy for my tastes, more Duran than Dury, if you get me. Three singles were lifted from the set: the wishy-washy drama “Never in a Million Years” (#62), the musically excellent “House On Fire” (#19) and the banal funker “Charmed Lives” (didn't chart). On the slide.
