TJR says

The liner notes tell: “The name of Sugar Belly has been associated with most Calypsonians for over a decade now. It was not long after the group was formed that they started performing for tourists at the Victoria Crafts Market and then the door to success began opening for Sugar Belly and his combo. This recording contains some of the most remembered Calypsos and Studio 1 salutes the many listeners of this album 'Authentic Calypsos by Sugar Belly and his Combo' and wishes you pleasant listening.” The big thing about Sugar Belly (William Walker) was that he built bamboo saxophones for a hobby, literally hollowing them out and punching the holes himself. As you can hear throughout this mainly instrumental LP, he could get a decent tune out of them too! He's accompanied here by trap drums, electric guitar, bass and flute. It's a good fun listen, beginning and ending strongly with a couple of mento classics, “Linstead Market” and “Slide Mongoose”. In-between, the ska number “Wings Of A Dove” swings good style, love the drumming. All in all, gotta love this guy's uninhibited approach.
