The sixth album in the name of Stephen Stills, man of many collaborations, and the first with his new band, Manassas, drafting in Flying Burrito Brothers pals Chris Hillman and Al Perkins (as well as bluegrass fiddler Byron Berline who guested). The core line-up was: Stephen Stills (vocals, guitar, bottleneck guitar, piano, organ, electric piano, clavinet, synthesizer), Chris Hillman (vocals, guitar, mandolin), Al Perkins (pedal steel guitar, guitar, vocals), Paul Harris (organ, tack piano, piano, electric piano, clavinet), Dallas Taylor (drums), Calvin 'Fuzzy' Samuels (bass) and Joe Lala (congas, timbales/percussion, vocals).
Conceptualized to an extent, the four sides are divided as A: The Raven (rock & latin), B: The Wilderness (Country & Bluegrass), C: Consider (Folk & Folk Rock) and D: Rock n Roll Is Here To Stay (Blues & Blues Rock). Showing a touch of class at the very end, theoretically and in actuality, “Blues Man”, an acoustic moaner, is dedicated to departed legends Jimi Hendrix, Al 'Blind Owl' Wilson and Duane Allman. Nice.
