“Electronic Magnetism” by Solomon Burke - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1971 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1970s |

The 1st of 3 albums for MGM. 2 back album tracks get a reworking - “You Can Run But You Can’t Hide” and “No Man Walks Alone”, both having been recorded in the mid 50s for Apollo and both having appeared on the “Solomon Burke” LP of 1962. A non-album track from the same period “No Man Walks Alone” also gets the 1971 remake. I’m not a big fan of the “cabaret soul” that was becoming more and more prevalent in the 1970s. The 3-song suite for Elton John is a real low case in point. However, the big man proves he’s still capable of generating southern soul warmth, delivered mid-album by “Bridge Of Life” and “Together We’ll Light Up The World”, which more than make up for any disappointments elsewhere.
