The group's fourth album in four consecutive years arrived in June, 1981, and the new “phase two” Banshees make this their greatest album statement yet. The four remain: Siouxsie Sioux (vocals), Steven Severin (bass guitar), Budgie (drums, percussion) and John McGeoch (guitar). Less synthesized than its predecessor, the strength of the work as a whole is shared between all contributors, from the heavy and tribal rhythm section to the immensely inventive guitar patterns and the intensely controlled vocals which command the room. Two terrific singles were released from the set; “Spellbound” (#22) and “Arabian Knights” (#32), and there's plenty more where they came from. To paraphrase the lady herself: “Sit back and enjoy, The real McCoy, Our new air of authority”.
