Last year's pair of “Sons And Fascination” & “Sister Feelings Call” had done well for them, but, in September '82, “New Gold Dream” raised the bar to a new level, and rightly so, spawning, at long last, their first three Top 40 hit singles in the UK; “Promised You A Miracle” (#13) and “Glittering Prize” (#16) hit pre-album whilst “Someone Somewhere In Summertime” (#36) was, somewhat ironically, released at christmastime. Forging ahead, they've a new drummer to tighten it up, the core five now being: Jim Kerr (lead vocals), Charlie Burchill (guitars, effects), Michael MacNeil (keyboards, effects), Derek Forbes (bass guitar) and Mel Gaynor (drums). As classy and gripping as early Roxy Music, with just the right amount of 81, 82, 83 and 84 to seal the deal in the here and now.
