“Translucence” by Poly Styrene - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1981 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1980s |

Almost as if the 23-year-old Poly is on a mission to calm down, this pretty, vaguely hippy-ish, affair was a million miles away from her work with X-Ray Spex, but her winning charm succeeds, with the contributions of Kevin McAlea (keyboards) and Ted Bunting (saxophone, flute) emerging as the most prominent musical tones. “Toytown” / “Sub-Tropical” was the 45 pairing in late September, 1980. Discographers seem split as to whether the album itself was released in 1980 or 1981 and I've been unable to establish the release year as a fact, but I side with 1981 as per Wikipedia and Rate Your Music in the meantime.
