TJR says

Another succesful US Top 20 album from the ever-ambitious larger-than-life wide-eyed funksters, trading at their commercial peak. Opening with “Prelude” group-leader George Clinton lays down the manifesto: “Funk upon a time, In the days of the Funkapus, The concept of specially-designed Afronauts, Capable of funkatizing galaxies, Was first laid on man-child, But was later repossessed, And placed among the secrets of the pyramids, Until a more positive attitude, Towards this most sacred phenomenon, Clone Funk, Could be acquired, There in these terrestrial projects, It would wait, along with its coinhabitants of kings and pharoahs, Like sleeping beauties with a kiss, That would release them to multiply, In the image of the chosen one: Dr Funkenstein. And funk is its own reward. May I frighten you?” They're as mad as fruit biscuits and, whilst it's hard to dislike them, the cartoon journey does get wearisome at times. They have their moments though; best cuts are the laid back “Gamin’ On Ya!”, with neat horn lines from ex-JB Fred Wesley, the funky-fun non-fussy lead single “Do That Stuff” and the album's closer “Funkin’ For Fun”, another mid-tempo groover with a super-soulful vocal from Glenn Goins. Not bad here and there, even if my connection with the Mothership is fading after last year's high…
