There he is again with that trademark diamond smile, he's got you onside from the start really. I though his “Inkunzi Emnyama” long-player of 1975 was excellent, but this is on another level again, rougher and tougher, more urban this time around with the drum, bass, guitars and vocal chanting dominating, albeit still peppered tastily and tastefully here and there with accordions, fiddles and whistles. He seems to know which side his bread is buttered on; since the debut, he's released several LPs all with the Mavuthela Production stable, West Nkosi at the helm all the while. From start to finish, the whole fast-paced effect is highly intoxicating, guaranteed to get me nodding, tapping, humming drumming, and - I can scarcely even believe it myself - dancing along. Moses, who plays guitar and sings, writes all 12 of these pieces himself, clearly a great talent. I'm led to believe that his LPs sold well in South Africa, but it beats me why this guy is not more widely celebrated.
