Million-selling debut album from Florida's concise Southern Rock septet, produced by Al Kooper for his Sounds of the South label, fronted by MCA Records. They lined up: Ronnie Van Zant (lead vocals, lyrics), Gary Rossington (lead guitar, rhythm guitar), Allen Collins (lead guitar, rhythm guitar), Ed King (bass guitar), Leon Wilkeson (bass, backing vocals), Billy Powell (keyboards) and Bob Burns (drums). Includes two singles; the pop-rocker “Gimme Three Steps” and their power-ballad signature song “Free Bird”.
