“Never Too Much” by Luther Vandross - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1981 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1980s |

It's all strongly detestable to my ears, but this August '81 release was the big breakthrough for the 30-year-old R n B singer-songwriter, giving him a Top 20 hit in the US pop chart as well as making #1 in the R n B equivalent. On the singles chart, the title-track did likewise, hitting #33 in the pop chart and #1 in the R n B. The 45 also broke through in the UK, hitting #13 in the official BBC Top 40. Bendy bassist Marcus Miller plays a key role as does an old school pal, Nat Adderley Jr. (son of the famous jazz cornetist) who works on many of the arrangements. The album includes one cover, “A House Is Not A Home” (Brook Benton, 1964), which closes the set.
