“Stormy Monday” by Lou Rawls with Les McCann Ltd. - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1962 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1960s |

The coming together of these articulate Hollywood hipsters was much anticipated by fellow scenesters. Lou’s soulful croon was backed by Les McCann (piano), Leroy Vinnegar (upright bass) and Ron Jefferson (drums). The album notes lose the plot: “The collection itself is a departure from the neo-gospel or “soul-jazz” with which both have been associated. Rather, their treatments are reminiscent of the “rhythm and blues” of the early 50s. The result: electric!” Don’t believe the hype! This is an exceedingly boring soul-jazz album…
