“A Man Of Value” by Lou Rawls - album review

features in: Album Chart of 1972Album Chart of the Decade: 1970s

TJR says

The 19th album in 11 years from the 38-year-old cabaret soul man. Starts well enough with the autobiographical title-track (he's not shy) and the impressive anti-war song “Politician”; “See the politician, See him kiss the baby, See him help the little old lady cross the street… Does the baby know her daddy is dying, Somewhere in the jungle far away? Does the little old lady know his grandson's crying, Cause his best friend died today?” More of this would have splendid but, alas, he reverts to type and we get an album of rather boring brill-building psuedo-soul.
