“The Dreaming” by Kate Bush - album review

Kate Bush's artful brand of songwriting is hard to categorize, and folk motifs from mandolins, uilleann pipes, and didgeridoos do little to make the task any easier on this very fine September '82 release. The album did well, peaking at #3 in the UK, although the very demanding expectations of EMI were left unsatisfied. Single success was notably lacking in comparison to previous releases, but that says more about the record buying public than it does about the song quality, for the 5 single cuts were the album's best tracks. For the record, these were: “Sat In Your Lap” (#11), “The Dreaming” (#48), “There Goes a Tenner” (#93), “Suspended in Gaffa” (#33 in France) and “Night Of The Swallow” (didn't chart).
