“Gettin’ Down To It” by James Brown - album review

features in: (B-list) Album Chart of 1969(B-list) Album Chart of the 1960s

TJR says

Another new album relegated to “b” status due to the inclusion of 4 reworkings from the back catalogue. To be fair, these are bona-fide reworkings, as JB gets all late night Jazz tinkly with it. He’s very good at it too. The boy can certainly croon some, and to his credit he never loses his trademark rasp within the genteel genre, but, for all that, this just ain’t my bag Papa…
