TJR says

A much celebrated double album from “the pioneering Godfathers of the jam band world”, compiled from 3 concerts in their hometown of San Francisco between January and March, 1969. Those who know about these things regard the live performance as the only real way to capture the essence of the group. “Dark Star” - which takes up the entirety of side A - is famously regarded as the ultimate Grateful Dead performance by their devoted fanbase, “erupting in Coltrane-worthy epiphanies” according to one particularly enthusiastic reviewer. It's relentlessly dull to me, they over-egg everything
