TJR says

Disillusioned guitarist Steve Hackett had jumped ship, leaving Phil Collins (vocals, drums, percussion), Tony Banks (keyboards) and Mike Rutherford (basses, guitars) as a trio, hence the album's title. As if signalling the start of a new era, the epic-length pieces have been cut down in favour of more regular length songs, although they remain every bit as irksome; bombastic pop or bombastic prog - it's all loathsome to me. The sole piece which doesn't have me grimacing sourly arrives at the very close, “Follow You, Follow Me”, which gave the group their first ever Top 10 hit single in the UK Pop Charts, some 11 years after forming. It's a nice tune, and I might even have given it a 5 or a 6 had they toughened it up around the edges, rather than employ the soft synth wash as the leading motif. The prog diehards predicted that this album would signal the beginning of the end for Genesis, but that was far from the case, as new “sophisiticated pop” fans were found to replace any lost proggers. The album hit #3 in the UK and #14 in the US, their biggest success over there at the time.
