TJR says

Phil Collins had been doing a roaring trade with his solo debut “Face Value” earlier in the year, and this informs “Abacab” to a fair degree, bringing a modern 80s production vibe to the desk, with the shiny horns, crisp synths and booming drums all echoing from Collins solo to the Genesis group. For their September, 1981, release they line-up: Phil Collins (drums, vocals), Tony Banks (keyboards) and Mike Rutherford (basses, guitars). It's an improvement on the last 4, I'll give them that, but this new style does very little for me either. In the UK, four singles were lifted from the set: “Abacab” (#9), “No Reply At All” (-), “Keep It Dark” (#33) and “Man On The Corner” (#41). Their popularity is strengthening at this time; “Abacab” was their second successive number one LP at home, and gave them their first Top 10 success in the Billboard 200.
