“No Other” by Gene Clark - album review
| features in: Album Chart of 1974 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1970s ● 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die |
The former Byrd, now 29, delivered his ambitious sixth album in September, 1974. Over $100,000 in the making, the west coast rocker melds country, rock, jazz, blues and psychedelia motifs via a sprawling group of top-notch session musicians and guess what? It's as boring as hell. It was a commercial disaster, although he deems it his masterpiece, as do a number of critics. These views are alien to me; I much preferred 71's “White Light”.
