The final Faces album was released in the springtime of 1973 to a backdrop of group tensions – it’s reported that Rod Stewart, now an international solo star, didn’t even turn up for the first two weeks of recording. These affable Rockers were a bit of a rarity for me – a Rock band that didn’t turn me off. The bluesy and folksy touches were a great help in this regard mind you, but essentially, this is uncomplicated Pop Rock Riffage with one eye on a pint and one on that blonde in the corner. Who can resist the gallus swagger of “Cindy Incidentally”? It’s a total strut around the pool table job. In the same vein, but to a less dynamic extent, is “My Fault”. The set is agreeable all the way, even if does lack consistent thrills. Album closer “Ooh La La” is the third highlight, a cool lazy swing strummer, with guitarist Ronnie Wood stepping in for a rare lead vocal.

Shortly after the album’s release, Stewart reported to New Musical Express that he felt that Ooh La La was a “stinking rotten album”. Pah, what does he know? He’s just a disco Betty isn’t he? The rest of the group was understandably hurt by the comments. Ronnie Lane, especially hurt and not looking forward to being even more increasingly relegated to the sidelines, quit in June and was replaced shortly thereafter by former Free bassist Tetsu Yamauchi. The group recorded three subsequent singles, but never again recorded an album. In 1975, Ronnie Wood began working with the Rolling Stones, which brought differences between Stewart and the others to a head, and in December the band announced that they were splitting…
