Another interesting project for the in-demand Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger, the fifth “A-list” album of 1962 for Ewan. Inspired by Benjamin Russell's 1848 panoramic painting which was, incredibly, 8 feet high and 1800 feet long, the film “Whaler Out of New Bedford” was produced by Francis Thompson, documentary film maker of New York, and written and photographed by Adam Giffard. Peggy Seeger and Ewan MacColl were commissioned to arrange the film score, and provide supplementary songs. The soundtrack cast includes: Ewan MacColl (vocals), A.L. Lloyd (vocals), Peggy Seeger (vocals, banjo, guitar, autoharp), Alf Edwards (concertina, oracina), Dave Swarbrick (fiddle) Louis Killen (chorus), Charles Parker (chorus), Joe Higgins (chorus), John Reavey (chorus), Ian Logan (chorus). Philip F. Purrington (curator of the Whaling Museum in New Bedford, Massachusetts) provides whaling commentary.
