A companion set to Volume 1, Ewan continues to explore the broadside ballads of the seventeenth century. On side 1 “The Female Frolic” regales the tale of a female highwayman dressed a man, whilst in “Give Me My Yellow Hose” we learn that there was a time when the men who wore yellow stockings were deemed to be players! Side 2 opens with “A King And No King” which glorifies the coming of William of Orange in 1688. The epic “Constance Of Cleveland” closes the set and is almost an entire play in its own right, telling the tale of Lady Constance of Cleveland and her disloyal knight.
