“Rio” by Duran Duran - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1982 → ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1980s → ● 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die ![]() |

For their second album in May, 1982, the Birmingham quintet were: Simon Le Bon (23, vocals); Nick Rhodes (19, keyboards, synthesizers); John Taylor (21, bass guitar, backing vocals); Andy Taylor (21, guitars, backing vocals) and Roger Taylor (22, drums, percussion). “My Own Way” had been a #14 hit in late '81, but they discarded that fast-paced version and completely re-recorded it in a slower tempo for the album. Three singles were lifted from the LP; “Hungry Like The Wolf” (May-82, #5), “Save A Prayer” (Aug-82, #2) and “Rio” (Nov-82, #9). If there could be such a thing, they were the quintessential pop sound of 1982. The boy bands were bearable back in the day.
