TJR says

The hard-rocking first album on their own Purple Records label did a roaring trade, hitting #1 in the UK and #7 in the States. The 5-piece lined-up: Ian Gillan (vocals, harmonica), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Jon Lord (keyboards), Roger Glover (bass) and Ian Paice (drums, percussion). Side one does nowt for me, but the infamous “Smoke On The Water” rocks like Beethoven and the psuedo-glam “Space Truckin'” has a lot of neat motifs throughout, with the solos kept to a minimum, just the way I like it.
