Fine LP from the 53-year-old “King Of Zydeco”, produced by Chris Strachwitz and recorded on April 25th, 1977 at Sea-Saint Studios, New Orleans, excepting “Take Off Your Dress” which was pulled in from an October '75 session in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Flavouring this cajun-blues fusion are: Cleveland Chenier (vocals, accordion, washboard), Paul Senegal (guitar), Joseph Bruchet (bass), Stanley 'Buckwheat' Dural (piano, organ), John Hart (saxophone) and Robert Peter (drums). Clifton largely sings in French, but breaks into English here and there. I don't mind either way, such is the addictive quality of the earthy performance. Generally, I care most for the slower blues jams, but the killer highlight is the folk traditional, “Tante Na Na”, on which the idea of waltzing suddenly harbours appeal. Très sympa.
