“Fresh Berry’s” by Chuck Berry - album review

features in: Album Chart of 1965Album Chart of the Decade: 1960s

TJR says

Fresh? That’s debatable. Chuck Berry starts to run out of ideas right about here on this uninspiring affair. Although the delivery is decent enough, how many songs can use the same riff-o-rama before we say right, enough’s enough. Give me some real fresh berry’s. Please! It should be noted that my version of this LP is issue 1 (Chess CRL-4506) which was released in the UK in November 1965. Issue 2 (Chess LP-1498) was released in the U.S. in April 1966 and replaced the rather dull instrumental “Sad Day Long Night” with the (slightly better) “Welcome Back Pretty Baby”.
