“Tapestry” by Carole King - album review

The second album from the newly turned 29-year-old singer-songwriter arrived in February, 1971. She's obviously an amazingly talented writer, even if her MOR stylings often do little for me. I'd go so far as to say, her songs often sound better when interpreted in other eras or environments, her own “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?” and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” serving as typical examples. That said, she surprises me greatly with “Way Over Yonder” - a real deal soul ballad which is genuinely affecting even to my snobbish sensibilities. Similarly, there can be no denying the sheer quality of “You've Got A Friend” or “I Feel The Earth Move”. “Tapestry” went on to become one of the the best-selling albums of all time, with over TWENTY FIVE MILLION copies sold worldwide.
