By this stage, Roxy Music were two years into their post-Siren hiatus, and Bryan Ferry pressed on with his busy solo career, delivering “In Your Mind”, his fourth album in five years. This time, it was all original material too, and was supported by an extensive and elaborate tour. There’s a noticeable softening around the edges on this one, a clear step into a safer, radio-friendly brand of adult orientated pop. That said, the opening title track, “This Is Tomorrow”, kicks on from the bluesy soul rock vibe of preceding Ferry albums - brassy and classy - and “Tokyo Joe” connects well, channelling, as it does, into the New Wave groove that had almost been invented by Roxy Music five years earlier.
