TJR says

1968 was a big year for this progressive New York based group, bookended by their first two long players. Now an ambitious nine-piece, they lined up: David Clayton-Thomas (lead vocals), Lew Soloff (trumpet, flugelhorn), Bobby Colomby (drums, percussion, vocals), Jim Fielder (bass), Dick Halligan (organ, piano, flute, trombone, vocals), Steve Katz (guitar, harmonica, vocals), Fred Lipsius (alto saxophone, piano), Chuck Winfield (trumpet, flugelhorn) and Jerry Hyman (trombone, recorder). The acclaimed set achieved much. In 1969, it went all the way to #1 in the Billboard 200, and spawned three consecutive #2 Pop Hits: “You've Made Me So Very Happy”, “Spinning Wheel” and “And When I Die”. Later, in 1970, it received the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
