TJR says

They had several years behind them already, but hadn't been making too many recordings in the last few years, which all changed at the dawning of the eighties. Nigel Grainge and Chris Hill's Ensign Records had been having some success with Eddy Grant, and Black Slate were seen as having good sales potential. The album was recorded at Gooseberry Studio, London, and engineered by Mark Lusardi. They line-up: Keith Drummond (vocals, percussion), Elroy Bailey (bass, percussion), Cledwyn Rogers (rhythm guitar), Chris Hanson (lead guitar), Anthony Brightly (keyboards) and Desmond Mahoney (drums). Helping out are: Norman 'Rudy' Hymes (tenor sax) and Nicky Ridguard (trombone). The exposure and marketing worked well for both parties, with two of the album's cuts making the UK Pop Charts; “Amigo” (#9) and “Boom Boom” (#51), a cover of the old Jamaican festival winning song “Baba Boom”, originally done by The Jamaicans with Tommy McCook and The Supersonics Band in 1967. There's a reworking for one of their popular old 45s from '76, “Sticks Man”.
