“Björk” by Björk Guðmundsdóttir - album review
| features in: Album Chart of 1977 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1970s |
Björk, like many great artists down through the centuries, has a work of juvenilia within her catalogue. Recorded when she was just 11, the girl was clearly restless in her desire to create and perform. There are 4 cover versions on the record, including the album’s clear highlight, Melanie’s “Christopher Robin”, with Björk not only demonstrating good taste with the choice, but delivering the track with a knowing sensibility which belies her age. Unfortunately however, she’s surrounded by 70s pop session-men throughout the album, and the resulting disaster is somewhat inevitable. The Fall would visit Iceland in 1981; if only she’d waited 4 more years…
