“Mask” by Bauhaus - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1981 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1980s ● 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die ![]() |

For their second album in October, 1981, the Northampton post-punk quartet were: Peter Murphy (24, vocals, additional guitar), Daniel Ash (24, guitars, saxophone), David J. Haskins (24, bass guitar, vocals) and Kevin Haskins (21, drums, keyboards). Their switch to Beggars Banquet served them well, and the increasingly mature soundscapes took one step back towards the centre, resulting in improved group fortunes, the album ascending to #30 in the UK, and housing their first chart entries; “Kick In The Eye” (#59) and “The Passion Of Lovers” (#56).
