“Love It To Death” by Alice Cooper - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1971 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1970s |
The third album of seven from Alice Cooper as a band sees them move away from psychedelic obscurity into the rock mainstream. It was a big commercial success and spawned a few hit singles including “Ballad Of Dwight Fry” (later covered by The Melvins), “Is It My Body” (later covered by Sonic Youth) and a song which became an Alice Cooper trademark, “I’m Eighteen”. Bassist Dennis Dunaway contributes the album highlight – “Black Juju”, the only track to keep in touch with the bands psychedelic roots. A surprising cover of Rolf Harris’s “Sun Arise” closes the set. The album’s a struggler from start to finish…
