Singer Bon Scott had died in February, 1980, due to some sort of substance misadventure and, after a great deal of soul-searching, the others decided to carry on, hiring Brian Johnson as the new vocalist. By the summertime, they finished the album they had started with Scott, and the “Back In Black” LP was released in July, with the title, the cover and the tone being in tribute to their former frontman. The five now line-up: Brian Johnson (lead vocals), Angus Young (lead guitar), Malcolm Young (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Cliff Williams (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Phil Rudd (drums). With the exception of “You Shook Me All Night Long” and “Rock And Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution” (who can possibly resist singing along to THAT vocal?), this album does not hold any excitement for me, but this is certainly not the view of the record buying public who would make it a multi-million seller, and one of the biggest selling albums in history.
